Possible Mage Knight comeback?

The Great Cthulhu-Clix." Not having paid too much attention to the recent shenanigans at WizKids, we almost missed the news entirely that the Clix line of collectible miniatures is now dead. While Mage Knight was discontinued by WizKids some time ago, the system behind the game lived on, primarily through the HeroClix line. Since Topps’ purchase of WizKids, however, all Clix lines were dissolved.

All is not doom-and-gloom, however, as there’s some indication that Catalyst Game Labs and Pinata may team up and buy some of WizKids’ intellectual property. Even if licensing issues arise with the comic book licenses from Marvel, DC, et al, the rights to Mage Knight and perhaps the FASA properties are no-brainers. In other words, we may see Mage Knight 3.0, as well as a rebirth of the Mechwarrior and Shadowrun properties in wargaming form. (Honestly, a modular, small-format Shadowrun game complete with vehicles would be hella-fun. Of course, the Mechwarrior line is similarly ripe for some modular innovation.)

While WizKids gave wargamers some awesome games, they didn’t do the best job of managing and evolving them. So, we’re not that sad to see the Clix lines finally die off, though we’d happily see them return in a manner that integrates older versions, such as finding a way to make release models of Mage Knight figures work with 2.0 and 3.0. We can hope, can’t we?

This could be good info for alot of us guys that have a ton of MK figure that were once valuable commodities. Heck, I’d even play competitively again if they worked the bugs out and re-released the game allowing me to use 1.0 & 2.0 figs. Thanks for the updates guys.

Keep us informed. I’d love to see a MK return, hopefully truly backwards compatible this time.

If they can avoid the mistakes of the past I don’t see why it can’t be successful.
