iPhone firmware 1.1.3 useless, just like 1.1.2.

by WyldKard on January 2, 2008

According to PhoneDifferent, version 1.1.3 of the firmware is soon to be released, and as with 1.1.2, the new “features” coming with it are about as underwhelming as it can get. In fact, almost all of the new features already exist in the form of native applications for the 1.1.1 “jailbroken” , including program rearrangement (SummerBoard), multiple SMS recipients (iSMS), and Google Maps cell-tower triangulation (Navizon).

While is making progress in playing catch up to the “hacking” community, there’s still not enough reason to force a re-lock on the crop of carrier-free iPhones out there. For example, why would I force myself to use a more expensive carrier, give up themes, financial management , voice notes, a wifi stumbler, NetFlix queue management, newsgroups, sync-free PodCast updates, emulated games, chat clients, MMS, to-do lists, and a slew of other apps I could get just to put bookmarks on the SpringBoard?

Welcome to 2008, . Maybe you’ll realize this year that the , and its owners, are better off being free of carrier lock-downs and web applications. Most of us are adults, and we can handle the responsibility of third-party applications. Really, we don’t need you to hold our hand.
